Generators & Backup Power for Toronto Homes
Standby generators, portable hookups, and battery backup — installed and maintained by ESA-licensed electricians. Brand-flexible install, ongoing maintenance contracts, and one team that handles it all.
What We Install
Three ways to keep the power on
No single backup solution fits every home. We help you pick between standby generators, portable transfer setups, and battery backup based on outage patterns, fuel access, and budget.
Standby Generators
Permanently installed natural-gas or propane generators that auto-start within seconds of a power outage. The gold standard for whole-home backup. Generac, Kohler, Cummins, Briggs & Stratton — we install all major brands.
- 10kW–22kW air-cooled units
- 22kW+ liquid-cooled for larger homes
- Automatic transfer switch wiring
Portable Generator Hookups
Have a portable generator already? We install the inlet box, manual transfer switch, or interlock kit so you can safely power circuits during outages — no extension cords through windows.
- Manual transfer switches
- Generator interlock kits
- Outdoor inlet boxes & signage
Battery Backup
Tesla Powerwall, Enphase IQ Battery, and other home battery systems — silent, fuel-free backup that pairs with solar or runs from the grid. Best for short outages and homes where natural gas isn't available.
- Tesla Powerwall 3 install
- Enphase IQ Battery systems
- Solar & battery integration
Why Toronto Homes Need It
Six reasons GTA homeowners go with backup
Power outages aren't rare in Ontario — they're predictable. Ice storms, summer heat waves, and aging grid infrastructure all stack the deck.
01
Winter ice storms
Multi-day outages are routine in the GTA each season.
02
Sump pump protection
Lose power, lose your pump. Wet basements cost more than a generator.
03
Working from home
Backup power keeps internet, conferencing, and laptops running.
04
Medical equipment
CPAP, oxygen, mobility — backup power is essential, not a nice-to-have.
05
Frozen food & appliances
A full freezer of food can be lost in 24–48 hours of outage.
06
Insurance & resale
Standby generators add resale value and qualify for some insurance discounts.
Brand-Flexible
We install what fits, not what we're paid to push
No locked-in brand partnerships
We're not a Generac dealer or a Kohler reseller — we install whichever generator or battery actually fits your home, fuel availability, and budget. Generac is great for fast lead times and broad service; Kohler runs quieter; Cummins is a workhorse for larger homes; Powerwall is unbeatable for solar-paired homes. We'll lay out the trade-offs, you decide.
Our Process
From quote to first test run in five steps
01
Free site visit
We assess your panel, gas line, outdoor space, and discuss what you want backed up.
02
Sizing & quote
Load calculation determines the right unit size. Fixed-price quote with brand options.
03
Permits & coordination
We pull the ESA permit, coordinate with Enbridge for gas tie-in, and schedule install.
04
Install & commission
Generator pad, transfer switch, panel work, and full commissioning. Most installs done in 1–2 days.
05
Test run & handoff
Live outage simulation so you see it work, plus an owner's walkthrough on what to do during a real outage.
After Install
Annual maintenance you don't have to think about
Generators that aren't maintained, fail when you need them
Standby generators run weekly self-tests, but they still need annual oil changes, filter swaps, battery checks, and load tests to actually work in an outage. Our maintenance contracts include scheduled annual service, priority response if something fails, and a documented service log for resale and warranty claims. We also service units we didn't install — bring us the brand and we'll keep it running.

FAQ
Generator & backup power questions
What size generator do I need?
It depends on what you want backed up. Whole-home for an average Toronto detached home is typically 18–22kW. Essential circuits only (furnace, fridge, sump, lights, internet) can run on 10–14kW. We do a full load calc as part of the quote so the unit is sized right — too small means it won't run everything, too big wastes money.
Generator or battery — which is better?
Generators run as long as you have fuel — best for multi-day winter outages. Batteries are silent and fuel-free but typically run essential loads for 8–24 hours before needing a recharge. Many homeowners pair them (battery for short outages, generator for long ones) or pick based on what their outage history looks like.
Do I need a permit for a standby generator?
Yes. Permanent generator installs require an ESA electrical permit, a gas permit (handled by the gas fitter), and often a municipal permit for the pad. We coordinate all three and handle the inspections so the homeowner isn't chasing permits.
How loud are generators?
Air-cooled standby generators run between 65 and 75 decibels at one metre — comparable to a window AC unit. Modern Generac and Kohler units have sound-attenuated enclosures. Toronto and most GTA municipalities have noise bylaws — we'll site the unit accordingly during the quote.
Can I install a generator in a Toronto bylaw zone?
Almost always, yes — but setbacks from property lines, windows, and doors apply. Toronto requires roughly 0.6m–1.5m clearance from openings depending on the unit. We confirm placement during the site visit and handle the bylaw research as part of the project.
What does it cost?
Whole-home standby generators typically range from $10K–$20K installed in the GTA, depending on unit size, gas line distance, and electrical scope. Portable hookups are usually $1,500–$3,500. Tesla Powerwall installs typically run $18K–$30K depending on system size. Every quote is fixed-price after a free site visit.
Do you service generators you didn't install?
Yes. We service all major brands — Generac, Kohler, Cummins, Briggs & Stratton, Champion — regardless of who installed them. Annual maintenance contracts available for both new installs and existing units.
